Ep 71 - It's Basically the Same Movie

Ever watch a movie and think, "this reminds me of something," only to realize later it's basically the same movie as one you've already seen? And we're not talking about remakes here either. The Lion King is basically just Hamlet... with lions. Cars is basically Doc Hollywood... with Cars. This week we make some direct comparisons between movies that share more than one plot device. We also stretch this idea pretty thin in some humorous ways.

Ep 70 - Being a Ghostbuster

In 1984 a ton of movies came out that changed pop culture forever. One of the biggest was Ghostbusters which spawned a sequel, two cartoon series, multiple toy lines, a reboot and countless other merchandise. But perhaps its biggest contribution to the world are the Ghostbuster franchises around the world that suit up to do cons, charity events and even birthday parties (take that He-Man). This week we talk with some of the Austin, TX group about why they feel the need to, "answer the call."

Ep 69 - The Most Generic

Some generic products as just as good (if not better) than their name brand counter parts. But some are not. In fact some are so hilariously bad it's hard to imagine comparing them to the name brand at all. This week the group is coming up with the most generic versions of some products we can think of. What odd marshmallow shapes will end up in the cereal box? What's the worst species that can be crammed into a box of animal crackers? What celebrity doesn't need a knock-off perfume?

Ep 67 - Series We've Broken Up With

You find a new series and everything is great. You're digging on it, it's digging on you. But as time goes by things change. Maybe the show runners change; maybe one of the main characters changes or maybe it just isn't as interesting as it used to be. This week we're discussing movie, TV, book and other series that we've broken up with. We'd like to say, "it's not you, it's me," but in this case it's probably you.

Ep 64 - Epically Geeky: The Board Game

Remember when Monopoly was just Monopoly? Not Star Wars Monopoly, or The Walking Dead Monopoly? There is something fun about the idea of giving one of those classic board games like Monopoly, Risk or Clue a new coat of paint especially when that paint is the theme of one of our favorite TV shows or movies. This week we're going to adapt our own versions of those games for the website. What would Cy's piece look like in Monopoly? Who would Lanie be Clue? What countries will Kris dominate in Risk?

Ep 63 - Do You Really Miss It

Technology is awesome. It has made possible things that we could only dream about growing up like virtual reality, podcasts, etc. But much like the dinosaur, some technologies / activities died off because of the rise of technology. And while we may look back on them fondly, do you really miss them? This week we share some of the things that hold a place in our hearts for nostalgic reasons but we might not really miss for practical reasons... like video rental stores with late fees... waiting in line for tickets for hours on end... buying over-priced physical media. Good times?
