Ep 70 - Turning Trash to Treasure

Transitioning away from fossil fuels is essential to reducing carbon emissions, and will require utilizing a variety of energy sources. One of these is  renewable natural gas (RNG), a growing industry that uses food  waste to produce energy. Sam Schutte, Co-Founder and CEO of Synthica Energy, joins us to discuss how this technology works and the role it could play in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. Resources discussed in this episode:

Ep 18 - Rollin On the River

It's time to clean up our act! We hear a lot about the amount of pollution in our oceans, but a large amount of that trash originates from freshwater rivers. In 1997, Chad Pregracke decided to do something about the trash he saw accumulating in the Mississippi River near his hometown. He started to clean the river up little by little, and more than 20 years later this venture turned into Living Lands & Waters, a nonprofit whose mission is to aid in the protection, preservation and restoration of the natural environment of the nations’ major rivers and their watersheds. Chad joins us on this episode to discuss the formation of LL&W and the importance of the work they're doing. He also discusses ways to get involved with this work locally or through their organization. Chad's inspirational story shows that one person really can make a world of difference!

Ep 15 - Talking Trash About Creative Reuse

It's true that one man's trash is another man's treasure, and nothing has embodied this notion like the Creative Reuse, or upcycling, movement. Today there are many Creative Reuse Centers around the country that help discarded items find new life. Austin Creative Reuse (ACR) Executive Director Cory Skuldt and Board President Carole LeClair join us to discuss the Creative Reuse movement and its importance in transitioning to a more sustainable economy. We also explore how ACR was formed, what they do, and ways for everyone to participate in the Creative Reuse Center movement.
