Ep 46 - Life in Plastic

Plastic...it's not so fantastic! While it has been praised as a "miracle" substance, plastic production and pollution has caused far-reaching environmental and health problems. In this episode, we're joined by Christian Shaw, Executive Director of Plastic Tides, to discuss how plastic is made, why it's harmful to the environment, and ways we can reduce our reliance on this problematic substance. Ep 18 - Rollin On the River

It's time to clean up our act! We hear a lot about the amount of pollution in our oceans, but a large amount of that trash originates from freshwater rivers. In 1997, Chad Pregracke decided to do something about the trash he saw accumulating in the Mississippi River near his hometown. He started to clean the river up little by little, and more than 20 years later this venture turned into Living Lands & Waters, a nonprofit whose mission is to aid in the protection, preservation and restoration of the natural environment of the nations’ major rivers and their watersheds. Chad joins us on this episode to discuss the formation of LL&W and the importance of the work they're doing. He also discusses ways to get involved with this work locally or through their organization. Chad's inspirational story shows that one person really can make a world of difference!

Ep 14 - Oceans of Opportunity

Nothing fishy about it: the ocean plays a critical role in our planets ability to support life on land and in the water. Climate change is affecting the delicate balance that life on Earth depends on, and the consequences are mounting. Dr. David Trossman helps explain why oceans are so important and ways that we can work to undo the damage that has been done.
