Ep 54 - Salems Lot

How have we gone 54 episodes of a geeky book club and not read a book by Stephen King yet? This month, we correct that oversight. And what better time to read a book by the modern day master of horror than to setup for Halloween! So when Mr. King asked himself, “what would Bram Stoker’s Dracula be like set in modern times (1970’s), “ the outcome was Salem’s Lot. Grab a stake and some holy water, the time of vampires is upon us. Our next books will be:

October - Angel Killer by Andrew Mayne

November - The Wizard’s Butler - Nathan Lowell

January - Braided Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

February - Quarter Share by Nathan Lowell

March - New Spring by Robert Jordan

Host: Eugene Stephens

Ep 16 - Pleasure Unbound

When you think of falling in love with vampires, werewolves and other creatures of the night, most people probably think of Twilight. It was wildly popular and managed to get people a little hot and bothered for being a YA book series. Imagine that being a 5 and turning it up to 11 by adding demons, hard core sex and violence. This month we read the first book in the Demonica series that does just that. If explicit sexual content isn't your thing, you might want to skip this month. If it is, get ready for an interesting conversation. March's book will be Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire.

Ep 6 - Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Abraham Lincoln is still considered to be one, if not the greatest president of the United States. So the idea of using him in historical fiction can be tricky especially if you plan on having him do things like behead vampires. But Seth Grahame-Smith managed to walk the line and deliver. This month we share our impressions of what our 16th president was supposedly up to and why he really had to defeat the South. We also announce our next book for April; You're Never Weird on the Internet (almost) by Felicia Day.

Host: Eugene Stephens

Guest: Kris Andrew, Jennifer Hetzel, Lanie Moore, Kelly Bolden, Andrew Parker
